CCRS 6th Graders Present Books for the Chazy Public Library

December 20th, 2012, a group of Chazy Central 6th graders presented a box of books to the Chazy Public Library.  They did the fund raising in conjunction with their Elementaty Library activities, directed by Karen Pepper.

KERN FAMILY DONATES CHILDREN'S BOOKS

Kay Kern, a library volunteer, and her husband, Lee donated $500 for the purchase of children's books. Lee's former employer, the Granger Co. of Indiana, triple matched their donation rasing the total to $2,000. The books have been purchased and are now a welcome addition to our children's shelves.

DEBBY POWERS WINS QUILT

The quilt crafted by Pricilla and Ricky Laurin was raffled off at the Friends Open House
in the Community Room of the new library building.
Debby Powers was the winner.
Thank you all who suported this fund raising event for the library.

And thanks to the Laurins for their time and generosity.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY OPEN HOUSE

December 2nd the Friends of the Chazy Public Library hosted an Open House in the new Community Room of the library. The event was well attended. Thanks to all who attended, participated, and donated.
The theme of the event was "North Country Christmas". The organizers were Trudy Burger, Carol Ladd, and Ann Maynard.

Chazy Elementary Students Decorate Tree

Mrs Langlois' elementary class visited the new Community Room of the library.

They helped the Friends of The Library with decorating for the December 2nd Open House.

DECEMBER STORY HOUR AT CHAZY ORCHARD

A group of children visited the Chazy Orchard Christmas Shop. They had the opportunity to listen to the Gingerbread Baby story read by Kristin McAulliffe and decorate cookies with bakers Cindy Dominy and Joann Trombly.

E-book Download Class

CEFLS technicians, Betsy Brooks and Chad Chase presented a class in the new Community Room.

Participants practiced down loading e-books to e-book readers. The CEF system now has about 80 books available from their collection which will be growing. Downloading from other sources was also demonstrated.

NOVEMBER PETER PAN PLAY SCHOOL VISIT

The children from the Peter Pan Play School had a brisk, cool, walk to the library on November 7th, 2012. Diane Sabourin provided interesting entertainment for them. The art work with Egyptian motive interested them also.

NOVEMBER STORY HOUR

The children were entertained with stories of Skippyjon Jones, the Siamese cat, and his adventures.
Craft activities followed.

OCTOBER STORY HOUR ABOUT APPLES

Joann Trombly read stories including one about Johhny Appleseed and shared samples of the various apples grown at Chazy Orchards. Children and parents all participated eagerly.

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR!

Come taste different varieties of apples grown in Chazy. Listen to stories about apple trees and harvesting during the fall season while we taste apples. Everyone will leave with a small bag of apples to share at home.

BOOK SALE CONTINUES!

The Friends have decided to continue their Book Sale with the remaining supply of books in the Community Room. You can purchase books any time during library hours.
The new Community Room lends itself to allowing patrons to go down and browse the books still availabe for sale.
Just ask Mrs. Fairchild for permission to access the room. She has the details on prices.

FALL STORY HOUR STARTS OCTOBER 6TH

Diane Sabourin is organizing the Story Hour schedule for children 3 to 8 years of age.
The first session will be conducted Saturday October 6th at 10:00 am by Joann Trombly.
The theme of her presentation will be apples.

ANNUAL FRIENDS OF LIBRARY BOOK SALE

The Friends of the Chazy Public Library held an other successful book sale.
This year they were able to host it at the new library location on Fiske Rd. in the Library Community Room. A beautiful 1st day of September helped with attendance.

Summer Reading Camp

Diane Sabourin has been conducting a three day Chazy Youth Commission Reading Camp at the Library. The children are working on a skit to be presented to the parents Thursday July 26th. The theme of their production is Caps for Sale.

Patron Visits Increase with New Library Building

Patrons enjoy the expanded collection space, the extra computer stations, and the wireless internet
connectivity. People with lap tops are taking advantage of work space inside and connectivity outside the building.

The longer walk from the Presbyterian Church puts color in their faces and has them excited.

April Visit by the Peter Pan School

Diane Sabourin and Esther Dominy met with the enthusiastic group of Play Schoolers, Wednesday, the 4th of April.

CCRS 5th GRADERS MAKE BOOK DONATION

The 5th Grade class from Chazy Elementary School donated books to the new Chazy Public Library.
Mrs. Karen Pepper, Elementary Librarian, organized the project and brought the children to the Library.

They delivered the books to Mrs. Fairchild the first week of April.

March 31st STORY TIME: THE QUILTMAKER'S GIFT

Trudy Burger displayed a beautifully created quilt and materials to accompany her presentation of the book: "The Quitmaker's Gift"

KNITTING GROUP MEETS

Carol Ladd has formed a knitting group that has been meeting Tuesday evenings at 6:30 in the Board Room.

NEW FIRE PROTECTION DEVICE AT LIBRARY

Bob Mesick, one of the officers of the Chazy Volunteer Fire Department, checks the new "Knox Box" by the front entrance of the Chazy Public Library. The box can only be opened by the fire department to provide access to the building in case of a fire call when the building is unoccupied. The firemen will be able to enter without damaging the building and will be able to contact library personnel.
